Faculty & Research

Our faculty

The academic faculty of Achva Academic College comprises 321 lecturers, 136 in the School of Sciences, 164 in the School of Education, and 21 in the School of Graduate Studies. About 50% of the lecturers are permanent members of faculty. Many members of our faculty began their careers as educational practitioners in schools and kindergartens and then pursued their academic studies up to the Ph.D degree. These faculty members bring to the classroom not only theoretical knowledge but also insights derived from their hands-on practical experience.

Our research

The Research and Development Authority of the College encourages research activities by its faculty on various topics. We believe that the prevailing opinion that colleges need not engage in research activity is wrong and contradicts the very essence of an academic institution. Academic frameworks devoid of research activity cannot keep up with the progress of disciplinary knowledge, let alone contribute to it. However, there is a fundamental difference between colleges and universities in regards to research and that is the emphasis the former put on applied research which leverages disciplinary knowledge for the construction and implementation of workable models.

The Research Authority at Achva Academic College supports the following types of research:

  • Studies in education, teaching and related fields such as the psychology of teaching - learning, child development, gender, multiculturalism, sociology of education, and more.
  • Disciplinary education research in all disciplines taught at the college.
  • Disciplinary studies related to the teaching subjects of faculty members.
  • Theoretical or applied interdisciplinary research in education and related fields.
  • Short and long term evaluation studies.
  • Evaluation research on programs implemented in the College and elsewhere, studies of Israeli society and of education in Israel and abroad.
