With Communication Disorders as the most recently approved addition to undergraduate degree programs at Achva, it is the first of its kind in southern Israel. The program meets acute needs for speech therapy and audiology counseling in the multicultural environment of southern Israel.

Meanwhile, we are collaborating with the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer in order to offer medical lab experience withcertification to interested Achva students.

Amidst this progress, Achva academic programs aim to provide students with the tools to become culture-competent professionals, culturally-sensitive to the health and education needs of southern Israel's population. Looking towards the future, Achva intends to offer proposed degree programs in nursing, paramedic studies, and premed.

The modules of the Achva Multicultural Center of Paramedical Professions will be agents of change, and offer models for replication. They will include clinical settings for student practicums in collaboration with local health clinics, ultimately becoming an initiator and integral part of a culturally-competent public health system.

Interlocking Voices resulted from a course by the same name. Jewish and Bedouin students delve into theories of multiculturalism, simultaneously studying the musical worlds of Israeli society. In the process, they are producing and performing their own music. Bedouin students translated the refrain of the popular Israeli song, Ha-livai, into Arabic. Here is a glance at the moving rendition of the song, accompanied by eastern darbuka drums, at the winter 2018 ceremony for honors students.

Honorary fellowships were awarded to Prof. Yoram Kapulnik and Prof. Hanna Yablonka. Kapulnik, Executive Director of BARD,United States-Israel Binational Agricultural Research & Development Fund, and immediate past Chairman of the Agricultural Research Organization | Volcani Center, has been an invaluable resource in initiating Achva's Agrotech courses.

Yablonka, a trailblazing historian, pioneered research of Holocaust consciousness in Israeli society, with its nuances and sensitivities. Her impression of the awards ceremony: It was so different than the ceremonies I am accustomed to… Jews, Arabs, Mizrahim, Ashkenazim, celebrating excellence in harmony, as if there is no destructive and tearing discourse. My family and students who attended said they came for me, yet had a greater emotional experience.
