Our social and environmental commitment

Achva Academic College endeavors to provide students with special needs with a supportive environment to allow them to complete their studies despite their disabilities. Among the facilities provided by the college:

  • An Institute for the diagnosis of learning disabilities in higher education – an on-campus facility which is one of five such institutes in Israel which are recognized by the Council for Higher Education.
  • A technological learning center providing students who have been diagnosed as having learning disabilities with technological solutions to overcome their disadvantage in the academic environment.
  • A mentorship and tutoring program providing students with special needs personal mentoring and educational assistance.
  • An electronic guidance system which allows visually impaired students to find their way around the campus. The system is installed in all buildings accessible to students.
  • A center for Diversity & Multiculturalism established in order to explore and create options for members of different communities to enter into a productive dialogue and share the knowledge gained from this discourse with the international community.

Students from Achva Academic College regularly take part in projects involving the neighbouring communities: the college operates an "open apartment" project in Kiryat Malachi where students take-up college-owned accommodation in neighborhoods with a low socio-economic profile and engage the residents in initiatives aimed at empowering the community. In the Bedouin town of Rahat, students take part, alongside local schoolchildren, in local initiatives aimed at improving the town’s ecological environment.
